Dessert Plates: Have Another Piece Of Pie!

by Violet on November 25, 2009

When my husband and I were engaged, we went to decide on our wedding registry. While we were there, I fell in love with a beautiful set of daffodil dessert plates. But the woman assisting us steered us towards a practical set of gold and white casserole dishes. They could go in the oven! And the microwave! And the dishwasher! I was swayed and we bypassed the dessert plates and added the casserole set to our list. Were they useful? Sure. Did I love them? No. Just the other day, one of them broke and my thoughts went straight back to those daffodil plates. Moral of the story? Life is too short to not have fun dessert plates OR an extra piece of pie.

Dessert Plates: Have Another Piece Of Pie!

Just look at these lush purple fused dichroic plates by Purple Cloud Studio. The art noveau designs shine like jewels. Absolutely dazzling.

Jaja and Coco
starts with fine Italian bisqueware and handpaints each one individually. This set is cleverly called It’s My Party.

Violet loves the color and texture of this set from CMS Designs. Hand
built from stoneware clay, the tops are stamped and glazed letting the bottoms retain the natural brown color of the clay.

For a great selection of dessert plates, look no further than your nearest vintage shop! The awesomely named Vintage Van Gogh has this lovely German hand painted porcelain set.

Camelot Glass has this vibrant teal Harker Pottery set complete with matching cake platter. Loving the decorative border in white.

The stylized chrysanthemum and gold finish have Violet absolutely swooning over this vintage Bavarian set. Great find, Falcon and Finch!

Glenda Jordan used an organic shape for this plate and adorned it with handpainted leaves. Not sure I would even cover up this piece of pretty with dessert!

The pattern on this plate evolved from a combination of circuit board and topographical map illustrations. Truda Laking Glatz knows geeks need dessert, too!

Finally, Pumphouse Studios’ graphic black and white chickadee absolutely pops against the chartreuse, persimmon, and orange plates.

Happy Stalking!

You’d have a great excuse to eat *all* of the dessert – just so you can see the rest of the plate! :D
