First there were candles to drip wax down our hands in dark, dusty stairwells. Streetlamps lit with oil and fire. Gas lanterns. A touch of firelight to read by.
And then, the light bulb.

Thomas Edison, Etsy Style
Wyldewood Papers was my initial inspiration; the light bulb above my head, if you will. This lovely shop makes handmade paper and twig lamps that are unlike anything I’ve seen: jaw-dropping nods to the natural world. I couldn’t narrow it down to just one, so I present to you Skylar and Hestia:
I dare you to look at the next photo and try not to gasp audibly. Perhaps I should label this NSFW. Jean Pelle‘s Bubble Chandelier is “composed of 12 clear glass balls and 3 clear globe bulbs. Clusters of balls and bulbs are held together by cables wrapped in decorative cotton twine.”
Afraid of the dark? Lucky you. You can call this Chartreuse Chalet gnome house night light a mental health necessity. By Karikatzi:
First a photograph taken in Brooklyn, then a print on canvas, then a modern drum-shade lamp, all courtesy of Re-surface. Stunning. Elegant. Perfect.
Calling all Alice fans! It doesn’t get any better than this. Get en eye-full of Whimsical Collections’ Alice in Wonderland Matt Hatter Tea Party Chandelier. There are two girls in the Curator Household who would go absolutely nuts over this beauty. Okay: there are three.
From the whimsically fancy to the naturally simple, allow me to present the Pancake Lamp, a stunning homage to the natural world composed of smooth, flat rocks. I think I’ll buy this for my mountain cabin. (Maybe I should buy the mountain cabin first?) From the must-see shop A Wandering Soul.
Mr. Edison would be proud, don’t you think?
Until next time,
Curator Beatrice

Beatrice, Thanks so much for featuring my lamps!! It’s very nice to see them honored so. The bad news is that I’ve been selling lots of them so my shop shelves are a bit bare, but the good news is that I’m headed off to my studio right now to make more!
