Today Beatrice and I had the lovely opportunity to spend time with some Portland Etsy artists at a tea hosted by Corinna of Piddix. It was our first chance to meet some of the people we’ve communicated with online and it was great to be able to put names to faces. Everyone was so friendly and fun! One of the women I chatted with is a glass artist who makes mobiles. Hearing her talk about her work was enough to inspire me to devote an entire exhibit to mobiles in their many forms.
Mobiles: Dancing In Air
Happy Lil Camper made this whimsical owl mobile from hand sewn felt pieces. Violet is charmed by the little details like the buttons covering the holes where the line attaches to the sanded pine frame.
Tiptoe Studio can make this fabric yo yo mobile in any color scheme that you like, ensuring that it will co-ordinate beautifully with your baby’s nursery. So soft and pretty!
Watch out! Monkeys are on the loose! Salty and Sweet calls this laser cut mobile Ape Escape. As she says, “Well, now you can own the cuteness of FIVE little apes without having to hassle with the diapers and excessive banana peels around your house!”
This next piece is comprised of found objects and when I found myself sitting and smiling at it, I knew it had to be included here. My favorite part is that Malcolm Studio Shop left the metal canister completely usable.
Violet lost quite a bit of time poking around all the paper decor in Paperbella’s shop. At long last, she decided on this gorgeous In Bloom Cascade mobile made from hand cut paper blossoms. What a fabulous way to add a splash of color to your home during a cold, grey winter.
Like the water cycle itself, these sweet little rain cloud mobiles are all about recycling. Little Green Frog uses all recycled fabrics to make them–in this case, a vintage wool blanket, pillowcase, and lace.
Oh, and remember that glass artist I had the pleasure of meeting today? That was none other than Portland’s own Leah Pellegrini. She says it best: “I make glass mobiles – a simple display of hanging glass. Kinetic, like Calder’s work, but primarily just a gorgeous display of glass in all its properties.” Look how the picture has captured the way this stunning mobile would catch the light and cast colorful shadows around your room.
Happy Stalking!

Thank You! It was great to meet you two! I had to leave a comment here and say thanx for the great collections of mobiles – I must admit I cannot resist collecting mobiles so I had to nab me up a little Sweet and Salty action
I just loove mobiles. Great exhibit!

I adore Tiptoe Studios fabric mobile. I used to have one that played a lullaby … I wonder what happened to it?
Adorable owl mobile! I love the cheery colors and whimsical characters. Wish I had seen this a year ago – it would have made a perfect gift for my nephew’s nursery.
Another great exhibit. I love the Paperbella one especially. The found object one is just fun!
I am a huge fan of Malcom Studio Shop! Just beautiful!
