Monograms: The Symbol of You

by Curator Beatrice on September 30, 2009

Once used as a royal symbol and later an identifying mark on the calling cards of the Victorian upper class, the monogram has evolved to encompass a much broader use and meaning. One constant has remained: at the heart of the monogram is the notion that your initials are an important identifier of who you are.

Monograms: The Symbol of You

Dig this: Alexandra Ferguson takes recycled felt and turns it into a set of three pillows that, when arranged together, form a classic monogram. This would make the best wedding present in the world:

Olive and Maude makes a killer monogrammed half apron. The fabric here is so cute and intentionally busy. Says the seamstress: “The fabric is so colorful it will easily hide food while protecting your clothes. This apron was designed for my best friend who had the bad habit of wiping her fingertips on her pants while cooking and baking.” Apparently I am her best friend!

The aptly named Corkey Creations will make you a set of 50 monogrammed wine cork napkin rings. Printed with the love bird’s initials, how could this not be the perfect touch for the place settings at a wedding reception?

Why don’t you just let Curator Beatrice plan your  wedding, okay? Deal. Let’s add some monogrammed wine glasses to the table. Decalmonograms will make you a set of custom vinyl decals that you can place on the glass yourself. You provide the wine.

Our little ones should learn to cherish their initials too, right? Nissalisa clearly agrees, because they have created the best initial tee this curator has ever seen. He’s a monster! Get it? The fuzziness? The eyeball? Perfection.

What I like most about this vinyl wall monogram is the simple typeset font and the blocks surrounding each initial. It’s a nice modern take on the classic monogram, which is usually more formal and frilly. Bravo, Circle Line Studio!

Take your identity to your neck. Do I hear the jingle of a monogrammed necklace? StephieMc will hand-stamp a sterling silver disc with your own personal monogram. This simple and elegant piece is the perfect symbol that you are proud of who you are.

Hey, Violet? We should get an Etsy Stalker monogram. B C V. What do you think?

Happy Stalking, our friends!

I think V C B would be perfect. I have some of my grandmother’s monogrammed silverware and I love how those three little letters make it so special.

Just like pb&j a monogram always seems so much more special than its partstaken apart :)

I really liked the New Bride necklace, with the detailing on the back, it would be an incredibly sweet necklace for any new comer to the marital world! The monograms are so amazing, I love the font that’s used in the necklaces!
