For over one hundred years, red-toed work socks have been transformed into the delightful creature we all know and love as the sock monkey. These little critters have made quite the comeback in recent years, and I’ll admit that I find myself unable to resist all things sock-monkey-ish. There’s something motherly about the sock monkey, something utterly handmade in this toy that might have been for one child the lone present under the Christmas tree and for another the design on his thousand dollar crib bedding. Either way, the sock monkey endures. Without further ado, follow me through the halls of exhibit number six:
From Socks to Monkeys
Let’s start with the traditional, classic sock monkey with a slightly contemporary gleam. I’d love to watch my toddler snuggle up with this sweet little Dodger from Stacey Jean:

Of course, it can be expected that painters and other fine artists join in the fun. Imagine how this set of prints from Creative Thursday would look hanging in a nursery? Or–let’s face it–the living room?!

But why should we humans get all the joy out of this sock monkey trend? Must our four legged friends always be left out of the loop? Not anymore, thanks to Etsy seller Classic Hound. Along with dozens of unique and wonderful collars and leashes is this sock monkey set. I can think of two dogs in Curator Beatrice’s household who could really use some of this monkey love:

Sometimes we never quite outgrow our childhood loves. That must explain what happened to this guy, who can’t let go of his monkey on his way to work. Do you think I can get Mr. Curator to wear this shirt? Hope so! This shirt is the work of Etsy seller Cloth Moth Clothing:

How could we close out this exhibit without another look at an actual monkey made from socks? Look closely and try not to giggle too loud when you see these three sisters (this is a museum, after all–sshhh). These monkeys were made by Bobeyah:

Now follow the signs to the exit doors, and dream of sweet sock monkeys when your head hits the pillow tonight. Any amazing sock monkey finds on Etsy this curator missed? Let me know in the comments!
Until next time, happy stalking!

I love sock monkeys. You made some great choices.
Ooh, really fun post concept! I especially love the t-shirt, adding it to my favorites now.

Oh, I know–isn’t the shirt fantastic?! They’ve got them in kid and toddler sized, too. I’m really tempted to get this for Mr. Curator for Valentines Day!
Again, a wonderful collection! Too fun!
